Love Hearts for Valentine’s Day

Ahhh, Valentine’s Day, the day to celebrate your love for another person, be it in secret through a cryptically worded card, an overblown expression of love in the form of giant teddy bears, roses and balloons, or a quiet and romantic dinner for two at your favorite restaurant. For us this Valentine’s day will be spent at home (as it has been since the kiddies were born), but we will make the effort, because, why not?

I always find February to be the dullest month of the year (even duller than January!) and Valentine’s helps to break it up a bit. I know that Valentine’s Day now is basically a marketers dream, and several years ago I probably would have laughed at anyone suggesting they celebrated Valentine’s Day. But then I made the decision to stop being such a cynic and to embrace, and enjoy, many of the things I would have previously looked at with disdain – and you know what? I’m glad I did, because I discovered that deep down I am a hopeless romantic, and now I don’t care who knows it!

R will be doing the cooking this Valentine’s, as he normally does, and it’s always a real treat to sit down to eat whatever he has prepared – last year it was duck, and this year he has decided to go with a Moroccan theme – I can’t wait! I will spend time the week before finding just the right wine to go with each course, and on the day, make the dining room look nice (ie – hiding the Duplo, wooden train track and any other plastic tat that might be lying around).

I will also make the effort to make myself look nice (not something that comes altogether naturally to me – I’m turning 40 at the start of March and I still haven’t quite figured out how to apply eye liner properly!) Even though we are not heading out to a fancy restaurant I don’t intend to spend the evening wearing my Pj’s, which has become my standard weekend uniform this winter. I think this year I am going to embrace the love full on, and incorporate some hearts into my outfit. I may wear a dress or I may opt for some nice jeans and a blouse or jumper. I haven’t quite decided yet, but I have had fun doing a little bit of online window shopping! Here are some of my favourite heart based picks.

I am particularly fond of the By Sun black and red dress (5), but sadly it’s a smidge (quite a bit!) out of my price range. Oh well, a girl can dream!
Which of my picks do you like? Are you doing anything special for this Valentine’s Day? I’d love to know, so why not leave a comment below!

No idea what we are doing for Valentines yet! Quite possibly a nice takeaway and staying in! I am madly crocheting hearts though! Hope that you have a good one whatever you do! xx

Sounds like you have a fabulous Valentine’s night planned, I love the amount of effort you both are going to to ensure you have a lovely romantic evening at home. I like both of the dresses you’ve selected, gorgeous shapes 🙂 #TwinklyTuesday

Thanks Robyn! We don’t really get the opportunity to go out much so we try to make a point of having a ‘Home date’ regularly. Xxx

My husband and I were just saying the other day that we should make an effort to do something romantic this valentine’s day. A special meal at home with wine and a nice outfit sounds lovely! I love the look of the black dress with the red hearts! #TwinklyTuesday

That dress is gorgeous – just a pity it costs so much!

What a fun post. Had not thought to wear hearts on an outfit other than a heart brooch. This has quite got me excited, thanks for the share x

Haha, you’re welcome! I’m not normally one for wearing hearts (or pretty little patterns generally) but I’m going for it this year. Xxx

I have a ‘hearts’ top that makes an appearance once a year 🙂 We don’t usually do much but this year I’m having a bunch of friends round for dinner so might do some nice Valentine’s cocktails and nibbles to go with it!
