I haven’t published anything this week – the tragic and utterly horrific events of Monday left me feeling like anything I might say could come across as incredibly inadequate. We bloggers, our words are part of what makes us. Some of us express ourselves better than others and for the last few months I don’t feel like I have been very good at expressing myself at all. So to try and use the written word to make sense of such a senseless act of violence, I just couldn’t do it.
But, while I can’t put into words how I feel about what happened I know that we must not let it stop us from carrying on with our day to day lives. If we do that then they win.
Here are my little loves for this week.
My life for the next 3 months will be heavily devoted to all things Twin Peaks. I mentioned my love for the show in my last Little Loves post and I shall be mentioning it again in the next section too! I started reading ‘The Secret History of Twin Peaks’ which if you are a big fan of the show then I really recommend it. My husband started reading it at the same time as me and was so engrossed he completed it in a couple of days. I’ve still got quite a way to go but am finding it very difficult to put down.
I don’t often binge watch a show anymore but I found myself getting incredibly engrossed in Girl Boss on Netflix. I haven’t read the book yet, and I’m pleased about that as I have heard mixed views about the show from fans of the book. I really enjoyed the series and will definitely add the book to my ‘must read’ list. Although I utterly disliked Sophia at the start of the series I found myself really warming to her by the end.
Twin Peaks mention number 2. The new series started on Monday – four hours of glorious David Lynch insanity. It was everything I hoped it would be and so much more.
I plucked up the courage to start shooting my photographs in RAW rather than the usual JPEG format. I’ve always been very nervous about it because shooting in RAW is what proper photographers do, isn’t it? And I’m definitely not one of those. It was reading this post by the hugely talented Amber from Meet the Wildes that gave me the push to give it a try. And I am so glad that I did – having so much more control over the editing process has made such a difference to the final image.
Here is a photo of little Miss G taken in RAW format then edited. I didn’t think to save the original RAW file so I can’t show it as a comparison, but the image below is another RAW file from the same set to give you a rough idea of the difference.
I bought a couple of lightweight cardigans from TU at Sainsbury’s earlier this week – perfect for when it cools down in the evening.
I also ‘wore’ a tinted moisturiser for the first time. I normally use a Bare Minerals powdered foundation but I don’t have the time in the morning to be faffing about with primers and different pots of powder. Also, my skin care routine leaves a lot to be desired so to kill two birds with one stone – moisturise and even out my skin tone at the same time – is perfect for me.
I haven’t heard anything new recently that has really caught my attention, however, a few days ago BBC6 Music played a real blast from the past – Fade into You by Mazzy Star. I had forgotten what a beautiful track it is.
I am hoping that this gorgeous sunshine holds out for the rest of the bank holiday weekend. We have a family day out tomorrow and then on Sunday I am meeting up with my best friends for a few drinks. We only get to see each other 2 or 3 times a year so I’m really looking forward to it.
What are your plans for the Bank Holiday weekend? Whatever you are doing I hope you have a lovely, relaxing time.
