It’s strange to think that I’ve been writing in this little online space of mine for the past three years. I’m not exactly known for sticking with something for so long. But here I am, three years in, and I still love it. Happy Birthday Pushing the Moon!
Pushing the Moon wasn’t my first foray into blogging – this is actually my tenth year, but it has taken several attempts, several false starts to find myself in a space I’m pretty proud of.
However, despite feeling proud I think it’s fair to say that I have found this past year the hardest too. There have been times where I have taken significant breaks between blog posts, and even longer on social media. I found myself utterly falling out of love with Instagram earlier this year, which was so odd considering it was my absolute favourite social channel once upon a time.
I felt overwhelmed by it all, felt like in the end all I was doing was chasing numbers, chasing the next milestone – be that on Instagram or trying to stay within the top 100 of HIBS… and my enjoyment for it waned. I posted just 73 photos on Instagram in 2017 compared to 222 the year before.
But, I think I needed those breaks in many ways as it helped me realise that reaching that next elusive milestone wasn’t actually all that important to me. Yes, I still like to monitor my stats on a monthly basis but I’m not beating myself up for not gaining a set number of followers on a certain social channel each month. I’m slowly getting back to posting on Instagram a regular basis, and I’m starting to enjoy it again too – I’d enjoy it more if the home feed was in chronological order again though!
Despite taking breaks throughout the year I have been so incredibly lucky to work with some amazing brands – Krups, VQ Radios, and Sofology to name but a few. I don’t take anything for granted when it comes to these opportunities and I’m always a bit gobsmacked when a company approaches me for a collaboration. I do have to pinch myself on a regular basis because sometimes it feels like I must be dreaming.
So, where do I go from here? What’s in store for Pushing the Moon in 2018? Well, more of the same… but more of it, hopefully! I have lots of ideas and plans that I’m working on (and plotting away in my bullet journal). I’m also looking forward to working with more brands in the coming months, however, one of my main goals for this year to produce more organic content – more of me, more of what I love to share with you, be that recipes, bullet journal posts, or just my occasional rambly posts.
Thank you to all of you for taking time out of your busy days to pop by and read my posts – it will never cease to amaze me that there are people who are not related to me who actually like to read my writing. So thank you very much, and if I had a big enough birthday cake I would send you all a virtual slice.
Here’s to 2018…
